Gavin Casalegno on Love and Marriage After ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’

A Deep Dive into Gavin Casalegno’s Journey of Love and Growth

Gavin Casalegno, known for his role in the Amazon Prime Video series Summer I Turned Pretty, has shared insights into his personal life, particularly his marriage to Cheyanne Casalegno. At just 25 years old, he has already experienced a significant transformation through his relationship with his wife.

The Real Deal: A Love Story That Transcends Time

Gavin describes their relationship as genuine and meaningful, highlighting how they found common ground through shared interests and experiences. “We had a lot of similarities and spent a lot of time together doing those things,” he reflects. He also mentions that Cheyanne’s maturity was both inspiring and slightly intimidating. When asked to name their love story, he chose “Met in a Far Place.”

“For me, being around people who really love you makes it easier to be yourself. That is home,” he explains. His journey into marriage has reshaped his understanding of love. “Being a husband has completely changed how I define love. It’s not something you fully get until you’re married or in a serious relationship. Love is selfless service; it’s more selfless than you imagine.”

Advice for Those Seeking Love

Despite being married for less than a year, Gavin offers wisdom to those still searching for their partner. He critiques the common belief that one might meet their soulmate at a bar. “People always go, ‘I’m going to meet my soulmate at a bar tonight’ and it’s like, really? That’s the plan?” he says. While acknowledging that such encounters can happen, he encourages people to look for love in the right places.

A Surprise Wedding and a New Chapter

Gavin’s wedding to Cheyanne in November 2024 came as a surprise to many fans. Prior to the announcement, the couple had kept their relationship private. They reportedly began dating in 2023, and the wedding photos shared on Instagram marked a new chapter in their lives.

Evolution of a Character and Personal Growth

In addition to his personal life, Gavin discusses his role as Jeremiah Fisher in Summer I Turned Pretty. He notes how his character has evolved over the seasons, especially in his dynamic with his brother, Conrad Fisher, played by Christopher Briney.

“Art imitates life — or is it life that imitates art? It’s kind of wild to live with a character like this, comparing my personal growth to his; it’s freakishly similar in a lot of ways, just through a different lens,” he shares. He believes that Jeremiah has influenced him positively, making him more empathetic and open to listening.

The Power of Vulnerability

Gavin emphasizes the importance of vulnerability, stating that it’s a form of strength. “I think it’s very masculine to be vulnerable. And I think that’s something I’m really excited for people to see. Masculinity isn’t about having it all together. It’s about showing up when it’s hard.”

He also highlights the complexity of his character, noting that while people love Jeremiah, they also find him frustrating. “He’s complicated. And I think people forget — they’re all kids, still. And kids mess up. But the way people feel about Jeremiah means we’re doing something right.”

A Legacy of Connection

Gavin feels that the connection between the audience and his character is crucial. “I’ve had people come up to me and say, ‘I see myself in him.’ Or, ‘He made me feel seen in a way I didn’t expect.’ That’s the best part. That’s the point.”

He also mentions that the cast knew the series would eventually end, so they focused on creating something that would lead to bigger and better opportunities. “We didn’t plant roots there — but we knew it would lead to bigger and better things.”
