Hotpack’s 2024 Sustainability Report Highlights Major Achievements
Hotpack, a leading provider of sustainable packaging solutions based in the UAE, has released its 2024 Sustainability Report. This report showcases that 97% of its extensive product portfolio, which includes over 4,000 items, is now either recyclable or environmentally friendly. The company attributes this milestone to its unwavering commitment to reducing environmental impact while maintaining ethical business practices and prioritising employee well-being.
Commitment to Net-Zero Emissions by 2050
The report outlines Hotpack’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. To ensure scientific accuracy in tracking progress and measuring environmental impact, the company has partnered with RWTH Aachen University in Germany. This collaboration involves conducting a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) that evaluates every stage of Hotpack’s value chain—from sourcing and production to disposal. This rigorous analysis ensures that each step aligns with global environmental best practices.
Abdul Jebbar PB, Group CEO & Managing Director of Hotpack, expressed confidence in the company’s ability to meet its ambitious net-zero target. He stated, “Our efforts reflect a proactive approach to innovation, collaboration with global experts, and investment in eco-friendly materials that pave the way for a greener future.”
Jebbar added, “Our journey to net-zero is fuelled by continuous innovation and a relentless pursuit of sustainability. From developing materials like H-PET to collaborating on life cycle assessments with renowned institutions, we are transforming our operations to support a circular economy in the UAE and beyond. These innovations are crucial in reducing our environmental impact and meeting the evolving needs of our customers and communities.”
Fostering a Strong and Inclusive Workforce
Zainudeen PB, Group Executive Director at Hotpack, highlighted the importance of empowered and valued employees in driving sustainability and growth. He noted, “At Hotpack, we believe that empowered and valued employees are integral to driving sustainability and growth because they are the backbone of our success. By fostering diversity, inclusion, and robust well-being programs, we are building a stronger and more resilient organisation, one that can drive forward our shared goals for sustainability and growth.”
Hotpack’s dedication to inclusivity is evident in its efforts to achieve 1:1 pay equity for all genders, ensuring fair rewards for all contributions. Women represent a significant portion of the workforce across all organisational levels, reflecting the company’s inclusive culture. Additionally, 18% of Hotpack’s workforce comprises individuals from minority or vulnerable groups, creating a diverse and dynamic team.
Employee Engagement and Well-Being
Hotpack’s employee engagement platform, the Hotpack Happiness Initiative, now in its third edition, includes various initiatives focused on wellness, health screenings, and progressive workplace policies that promote a healthy work-life balance. These efforts underscore the company’s people-first approach to business.
Strengthening Environmental Responsibility
Hotpack’s commitment to environmental responsibility extends beyond its products. The company has developed H-PET (Hotpack-modified polyethene terephthalate), a lightweight and fully recyclable PET material that significantly reduces the carbon footprint of its packaging solutions. This innovation highlights Hotpack’s focus on sustainable alternatives.
In addition, Hotpack has partnered with RECAPP (Recycling & Recovery Platform) to collect 40 tons of waste annually, diverting it from landfills. This initiative results in an annual reduction of 84 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions.
Ethical Supply Chain Practices
Hotpack enforces a stringent Supplier Code of Conduct that sets clear expectations for environmental stewardship, labour practices, and responsible sourcing within its supply chain. This approach is reinforced by the company’s Sustainable Procurement Strategy, which prioritises local sourcing and partnerships with diverse suppliers to support community livelihoods and reduce carbon footprints.
Hotpack also upholds a comprehensive Human Rights Policy that maintains zero tolerance for forced labour and ensures that all supply chain partners adhere to the highest ethical standards.
Community Investment and Social Responsibility
On the community front, Hotpack continues to invest in a wide range of corporate social responsibility initiatives. These include participation in wellness events and partnerships with civic organisations on awareness and safety campaigns. These programmes reflect the company’s ongoing commitment to creating long-term, positive impacts in the communities it serves.
