The Struggle of Streaming Subscriptions
In today’s world, it’s no secret that many people find themselves overwhelmed by the cost of streaming services. With so many platforms offering their own exclusive content, it’s easy to feel like you need to subscribe to every single one to keep up with what’s new. However, with the current economic climate, it’s not always feasible to maintain all these subscriptions.
Recently, I made the decision to cut my Hulu subscription from my Disney+ bundle plan in favor of going ad-free on Disney+ alone. This change came at an extra cost of $5 a month, but I thought it was worth it for the convenience and ad-free experience. However, after taking a closer look at what’s coming to Hulu, I’m beginning to have second thoughts about my decision.
Exciting New Shows on Hulu
Disney+ and Hulu recently collaborated to preview what’s coming up in their 2025 TV schedule. The list of upcoming shows is impressive, and there are several that have caught my attention. One minute clip, shared on YouTube, provided a glimpse into the future of both platforms. It included previews for a variety of new series, such as Glen Powell’s football series Chad Powers, the new Ryan Murphy show All’s Fair, the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, Marvel’s Wonder Man, Alien: Earth, King of the Hill, and Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building.
Among these, the one that has me most excited is Alien: Earth. As a huge fan of the science-horror franchise, the idea of Xenomorphs being the stars of their own TV show is a dream come true. The series also looks great, and it’s created by Noah Hawley, known for his work on shows like Fargo and Legion. This series will take the franchise to Earth rather than space, which is an intriguing twist.
The Return of Only Murders in the Building
Another show that has reminded me why I miss my Disney+/Hulu bundle is Only Murders in the Building. The last season ended back in October, and I had assumed it would be a while before the next season returned. However, it’s already on the way for this summer or fall. I know I’ll want to watch the new season because I need to see Oliver, Mabel, and Charles solve the murder that happened at the end of last season. This means that Hulu will get more of my money again.
While I’m not a football fan myself, I do enjoy Glen Powell, so I could see myself giving Chad Powers a try. Additionally, All’s Fair looks like a good time. If you’re in the same boat as me, there are a couple of options available. I can either downgrade back to the Disney+/Hulu basic plan for $10.99 or grab the premium plan for $5 more than I’m currently paying for $19.99. It definitely doesn’t make sense for me to go with a Hulu-only plan, considering its $9.99 with ads or $18.99 without ads on its own.
The Value of the Disney Plus + Hulu Bundle
The Disney Plus + Hulu Bundle offers excellent value for money. At just $10.99 a month, it’s a small but mighty package. Considering the standalone packages for both Disney Plus and Hulu cost $9.99 a month respectively, paying just a dollar more gets you both in one subscription. This bundle brings more mature content to accompany your Star Wars, Marvel, and classic Disney viewing, making it an exceptional deal. For those who prefer an ad-free experience, you can pay $19.99 a month to get rid of ads.
Conclusion
I’m definitely excited to add these Hulu shows to my queue later in the summer, but for now, I’m going to continue my break from the service and get excited for my upcoming return to the platform!
