Samsung Unveils Exciting New Foldables and Smartwatches
Samsung has once again captivated the tech world with its latest lineup of foldable devices, showcasing innovation and design in ways that push the boundaries of what’s possible. This year’s releases include the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and three new smartwatches, all powered by the latest One UI 8 and Android 16. These updates bring a range of new features, including Galaxy AI enhancements and improved Wear OS 6 capabilities.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7: A New Era of Foldables
This year, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Flip 7, which marks a significant evolution in the clamshell design. The device features an all-new look, with a larger screen space than previous models. It replaces the traditional folder-like camera bar with the largest ever edge-to-edge cover screen on a Galaxy Z Flip series. The 4.1-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow allows users to perform more tasks directly from the cover screen when the device is closed. Inside, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 boasts a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, both protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
The camera setup includes a 50 MP wide lens, a 12 MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10 MP selfie shooter. To make the device even slimmer, Samsung introduced the Armor FlexHinge, allowing for a compact 13.7mm thickness when folded and a weight of just 188 grams. Under the hood, it runs on the Exynos 2500 SoC, supporting the new Galaxy AI features found in One UI 8. These include the Now Bar and Now Brief, as well as Gemini Live for hands-free assistance. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 comes with a 4,300mAh battery, offering up to 31 hours of video playback on a single charge. It is available in two storage configurations (12/256GB and 12/512GB) and three colorways: Blue Shadow, Jet Black, and Coral Red, with Mint available only online. Preorders begin today, with availability set for July 25 at $1,099.
Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the thinnest and nearly creaseless foldable yet. Measuring 8.9mm when folded and 4.2mm when unfolded, it features a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x cover display with a 21:9 aspect ratio and an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen with 2,600 nits of peak brightness. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, it supports Galaxy AI features like AI Results view, Drawing Assist, Writing Assist, and Drag & Drop. The triple camera array includes a 200MP primary lens, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP telephoto lens. The device offers three storage options (12/256GB, 12/512GB, or 16/1TB) and is available in three colors: Blue Shadow, Jet Black, and Silver Shadow. It starts at $1,999, with preorders beginning on July 9.
Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE: Affordable Foldable Option
For budget-conscious buyers, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, an affordable version of the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Retaining the design of the Z Flip 6, it features a folder-like cutout on the cover display instead of an edge-to-edge screen. Internally, it has a 6.7-inch display, and the camera setup matches the flagship with a 50MP and 12MP dual-lens system. It uses the older Exynos 2400 SoC and comes with One UI 8’s Now Brief support. The battery capacity is slightly reduced to 4,000mAh, with storage configurations of 8/128GB and 8/256GB. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is available for pre-orders starting at $899 in black and white.
Galaxy Watch Series 8: Health and Performance Upgrades
Samsung also launched two new smartwatches: the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. Both models feature the tagline “Your health, your way,” building on the aesthetic of the Galaxy Watch Ultra. The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic brings a “timeliness sophistication” with modern features, including a slimmer and brighter Classic screen, a physical rotating bezel, and a Quick Button for convenience. It includes a 445mAh battery, 2GB of memory, and 64GB of storage, along with health features such as the Antioxidant Index, Bedtime Guidance, and Vascular Load. The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is priced at around $500 and is the first to feature Gemini right out of the box.
The standard Galaxy Watch 8 is the thinnest model yet, featuring a Dynamic Lug system for enhanced comfort and fit. It comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes, with displays of 1.34-inch and 1.47-inch respectively. Brightness is increased by 50% to 3,000 nits, and it includes similar health and fitness features as the Classic model. Both versions run on the Exynos W1000 SoC, with battery capacities of 325mAh and 435mAh respectively. The Bluetooth version starts at around $360 for the 40mm and $400 for the 44mm. Samsung also announced the 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra, featuring four titanium finishes, including Titanium Blue, and starting at around $642.
